today we protested as part of the March for Our Lives only a few miles away from where Stephon Clark was shot 20 (twenty!!) times in his backyard last week, for being a black man holding a cellphone. emotions were high yet as soon as stephon was brought up, and as soon as police brutality was brought up, two thirds of the white protestors left! they straight up left because their sorry asses can only handle generic, liberal chants.

they were so hyped chanting “enough is enough!”, but for who specifically? “vote them out!”, but replace them with who? they chant for gun law reforms but don’t see the irony when they ask the police to pose with them for a picture a few meters away!! “children’s lives matter!”, but clearly not black children.

gun violence has always been an issue of (white) entitlement, which is why it was not at all surprising that when the conversation was no longer only about AR-15s and school shootings, the whites felt like their “duty” was over. for them, they had done their part and put their righteous indignation with “gun violence” on display. but they won’t for a second think about how gun violence is only a symptom of white supremacy and other forms of bigotry such as the misogyny and antisemitism that went into fuelling the school shooting at Stoneman Douglass. they’ll only ever see the issue as being gun violence that springs up out of nowhere, or be ableist and blame it on mental illness, because that insulates them and that’s all they can handle.

i have to always remind myself that Now is always the right time to do what’s right, even though white supremacy insists on ruining my attitude 😩
